The Kijiji Cha Upendo Children’s Project supports families caring for orphans and vulnerable children in the Kibera Slum Community of Nairobi.
CHILD PROTECTION: To complement the efforts of families already providing physical and emotional support to orphans and other vulnerable children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through a family based approach, where children receive nurturing care by loving adults, within family homes.
KNOWLEDGE SHARING: Kijiji Cha Upendo provides workshops to educate guardians in parenting and best business practices, and educates the wider community towards greater acceptance of those who are suffering from HIV/AIDS.
MICRO-LOANS: Along with educating in business practices, Kijiji Cha Upendo provides small business micro-loans to build individual family income generating capacity. Those orphan caregivers who do not have a small business are taught livelihood skills.
COOPERATIVE SUPPORT: We share information and support one another in the difficult task of parenting orphans, provide counseling services, and cooperate in business ventures for the benefit of all.
FOOD: Kijiji Cha Upendo sees that no child goes hungry by supplementing family income through food baskets.
EDUCATION: Without education our children are lost. Our major goal is to equip them to fend for themselves and to contribute in a positive manner to Kenyan society.
